A killing bolt will shine in the night but will not kill.

This one has been driving me nuts. Any phenomenon that would be visible to a fair number of people at night for more than a few minutes, would take a tremendous amount of energy.

Suddenly, starting yesterday there are dozens of articles about how the star Betelgeuse, in the constellation of Orion, has dimmed precipitously and that this may be a harbinger of it going supernova.

Per the second sauce:

>Betelgeuse might explode and die, briefly blazing brighter than the full moon before vanishing from our night sky forever.
