In my exposure, experience, and understanding, this occurs when a bond from the child to the mother is lost, moreso the child is (saddened, repelled, left unfulfilled) from the mother's behavior change that resulted in a lost of personal fulfillment of the child's expectations or needs.

The child adapts in various ways. I do wonder if independence, or a reverse caretaker scenario is common… or if that is a pattern that can be investigated for better need fulfillment patterns and options.

Why wouldn't understanding something as complex as God be the same?
