It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's two-dozen government surveillance balloons over America

Back at base, bugs in the software. Flash the message, 'Something's out there'… Floating in the summer sky, 99 Fed balloons go by

By Shaun Nichols in San Francisco 2 Aug 2019 at 22:11

Uncle Sam is testing a system that uses high-altitude balloons to conduct surveillance over American soil.

Government contractor Sierra Nevada Corporation – the aerospace company, not the brewery – has released balloons that will drift over a large area in the United States' Midwest, and form a network capable of monitoring and tracking activity on the ground over massive distances.

The Pentagon-ordered tests, involving 25 balloons cruising at 65,000-odd feet, will run from July 12 to September 1. It is understood the craft are carrying radar equipment to track the movement of vehicles far below.

Mid-July, Sierra Nevada successfully filed the necessary paperwork with America's comms watchdog, the FCC, to obtain permits for wireless communications from the balloons. They will float over South Dakota and then move into neighboring Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Illinois. The filings sought permission for Sierra Nevada to use various radio frequencies over the area as well as inform those who are in the flight path of the trial.

Cold Compassionless Machines' That Seek to Destroy Humanity Already Exist, AI Expert Reveals

Arguing that corporations essentially operate “outside of national rules of laws and societal codes of conduct”, the AI expert suggested that the AI “is not the bit that makes that happen, the bits that make that happen are already in place”.

While the image of a malevolent artificial intelligence bent on exterminating mankind is an age-old trope in science fiction, one AI expert has argued that people should probably be afraid not of these digital constructs but rather of the entities they might use to further their nefarious agenda.

During an interview with the Daily Express, Rich Walker, director of Shadow Robot Company, argued that there’s a certain “kind of standard fear of A.I. that comes from science fiction”, which manifests either as some sort of killing machine a-la Terminator or an artificial construct that simply reshapes the world in its own image “and there is no space for humans in there”.

There is actually quite a good argument that there are cold compassionless machines that change the world around us in their own image. They are called corporations", he explained. "We shouldn’t necessarily worry about A.I. as something that will come along and change everything. We already have these organisations that will do that".

WINNING! Activist Immigration Judges Quitting in Frustration After Trump Admin Crack Down

Immigration judges frustrated with the Trump administration’s tightening of control over the Department of Justice based immigration court system are resigning from the bench in higher than normal numbers, many out of frustration, according to a report by CNN. The crack down began under former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and has continued under Attorney General William Barr.

At the same time, the Trump administration has increased the number of judges to its highest number as the system is overwhelmed with cases stemming from the recent border surges.

EXCLUSIVE: IG Report Reveals Someone’s Not Telling the Truth – AG Lynch, Comey, McCabe and Rosenstein All Caught in Conflicting Accounts

EXCLUSIVE: IG Report Reveals Someone’s Not Telling the Truth – AG Lynch, Comey, McCabe and Rosenstein All Caught in Conflicting Accounts

Joe Hoft by Joe Hoft December 27, 2019

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General’s (IG’s) Report on FISA Abuse points out a number of conflicting statements. One of the biggest whoppers is between Obama’s Attorney General (AG) Loretta Lynch and former and now fired FBI Directors James Comey and Andrew McCabe. Not to be outdone, former Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Rod Rosenstein makes suspect claims himself.

In the IG’s report there are conflicting accounts of when the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation started and various accounts of who knew what and when.

Obama’s AG Lynch claims that she doesn’t recall having a briefing on this investigation (p. 74):

South Korea brings in first US spy aircraft

The RQ-4 Block 30 Global Hawk Remotely Piloted Aircraft arrived at the Air Force base in the city of Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province, earlier in the day, the first of four units that South Korea is buying from the US as part of a 2011 deal. The other three are to be delivered by early next year.

Confirming its arrival, Lt. Col. Cho Se-young from the Air Force told a regular briefing that its operational deployment “will be pushed for normally in accordance with plans,” without further elaboration.

Remotely piloted with enhanced surveillance capabilities, the Global Hawk is optimized to scan large areas for both stationary and moving targets with high resolution, day or night, in all weather.

The high-altitude aircraft transmits data including imagery from an altitude of roughly 20 kilometers at near real-time speed and has a combat radius of 3,000 kilometers, so it has the Korean Peninsula and some areas beyond it within its range.

South Korea will now be able to independently gather intelligence on mainland North Korea, especially areas close to the capital of Pyongyang. Seoul has been heavily reliant on the US for that information until now.
