US military contractors sued for funding terrorism in Afghanistan with ‘protection’ payments to Taliban

Bribes paid by international military contractors in Afghanistan were used by the Taliban to fund attacks on companies that didn’t make the payments, according to a lawsuit filed by families of those injured or killed as a result.

“Large corporations that had lucrative businesses in Afghanistan” paid off the Taliban through a series of subcontractors, bribing the Afghan militants in order to save money on security, according to a lawsuit filed on Friday in federal court by the families of 143 US soldiers and contractors injured and killed during the longest war in American history. The 288-page civil suit alleges the Taliban then used the money to finance acts of terrorism against companies that didn’t bribe them, detailing the grisly circumstances that led to the deaths and injuries of the victims.

Those protection payments aided and abetted terrorism by directly funding an Al-Qaida-backed Taliban insurgency that killed and injured thousands of Americans.

An employee of the US Embassy in Kabul referred to the payments as “organized crime,” according to the suit, which seeks unspecified relief for their families under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Anywhere between 20 and 40 percent of the funding for major projects like the Kajaki Dam and a portion of the Ring Road went into the pockets of Afghan militants between 2009 and 2017, the lawsuit alleges. Contractors used Pentagon cash to hire sub-contractors, who hired their own sub-contractors and so on, until some of the money – amounting to millions of dollars, if not more – ended up in the hands of the Taliban.

“This is the Biggest Single Development in the Durham Investigation to Date” Joe diGenova on Admiral Rogers Assisting Durham

Former US Attorney Joe diGenova warned the Deep State for years now that their day of reckoning was coming. This past week he claimed that the biggest single development in the Durham Investigation to date occurred when it was uncovered that former NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers was assisting in the investigation.

diGenova was on the radio as posted by the America First Blog when he shared the following:

This is the biggest single development in the Durham Investigation to date. We were told according to public reports that Admiral Rogers met several times with John Durham and that we now know that Admiral Rogers, who is the central figure in uncovering the illegal electronic spying done by the Obama Administration, prior to the Carter Page FISA warrant. The spying that went on from 2012 to 2016, involving FBI contractors illegally accessing NSA data.

Mr. Rogers discovered that, reported it to the FISA Court, all of that spying was stopped and has led to this crescendo of illegal activity by Comey, Clapper and Brennan. It led into the so-called ‘Crossfire Hurricane investigation to cover up that previous spying that had been going on.

Australia’s fires (70 so far) blaze out of control near Sydney…

The Australian government has called up the army to help fight wildfires burning out of control near Sydney, Australia’s largest city. Authorities are bracing for an extreme heat wave this weekend, following a few days of cooler weather. Fire has destroyed vegetation on millions of hectares of land across the country over the last six weeks, particularly in the state of New South Wales. At least nine people have been killed. Prime Minister Scott Morrison is coming increasingly under fire for denying that man-made climate change could be a contributor to the problem of global warming. Australia has a thriving coal industry and much of its electricity comes from coal-fired plants.

Closer Everyday…How is this different then in China

American Universities Are Using Social Credit Systems To Track Students

A handful of U.S. colleges are employing a type of social credit system through various technologies designed to track students as they attend courses and walk across campus.

Universities across the country are using the so-called SpotterEDU app to connect with apps on students’ smartphones for the purpose of boosting their “attendance points.” The app also sees their absences and logs that information into a campus database that tracks them.

“They want those points,” Syracuse University Professor Jeff Rubin, who teaches Introduction to Information Technologies, told The Washington Post. “They know I’m watching and acting on it. So, behaviorally, they change.” He was referring to the app’s ability to socially engineer his students.

Judge Rules Against Stacey Abrams’ Group and Allows Georgia to Purge Voter Rolls

Earlier this month a federal judge allowed Georgia to purge 309,000 names from its voter rolls but he also scheduled a second hearing to hear additional arguments.

Fair Fight Action, a voting rights group started by sore loser and 2018 failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, immediately filed an emergency motion to stop the purge.

“Georgians should not lose their right to vote simply because they have not expressed that right in recent elections, and Georgia’s practice of removing voters who have declined to participate in recent elections violates the United States Constitution,” Fair Fight Action CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo said in a statement.

As Cristina Laila reported earlier this month Stacey Abrams lost the Georgia gubernatorial race by over 55,000 votes, but she refused to concede and blamed racism and voter suppression from a previous voter roll purge for her lack of votes.

On Friday a judge ruled against Fair Fight Action and Stacey Abrams.

Another loss for Stacey.

The Panama Papers

‘Urgent’ EU Plan to End Secret Company Ownership Poised to Miss Deadline

Countries, including Malta and Cyprus, have less than three weeks to comply with new European Union anti-money laundering rules designed to frustrate corrupt regimes, mafia groups and terror funders.

The Panama Papers investigation, led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, provoked a global scandal in 2016 by revealing how certain rich and powerful figures use anonymous, offshore corporations to hide their money and evade tax.

In response, EU nations pledged to shine a light on individuals who secretly control such corporations.

Malta, which is currently embroiled in a massive political scandal revolving around the car-bomb murder of a journalist and dirty money claims stemming from the Panama Papers, was one of the countries.

Spying on Everyone in the World: Bitcoin and the Orwellian Warning

A piece in Time plots the plight of Venezuelan refugees streaming into Colombia after watching their national currency, the bolívar, dissolve into toilet paper.

Penned in 2018 by Alex Gladstein, the chief strategy officer at the Human Rights Foundation, the article analyzes how hyperinflation and authoritarian governments push radical alternatives to the foreground.

Writes Gladstein,

“Venezuela isn’t the only place where people can use Bitcoin as an escape valve. In Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe printed endless amounts of cash and inflated the savings of his citizens into nothing, but his successors can’t print more bitcoin.

In China, Xi Jinping can track all of your transactions on Alipay and WePay, but he cannot orchestrate mass surveillance on all Bitcoin payments. In Russia, Vladimir Putin can target an NGO and freeze its bank account, but he can’t freeze its Bitcoin wallet.”

Working Class Secures Largest Wage Hikes Thanks to Tight Labor Market

The bottom 25 percent of American wage earners secured the largest wage hikes year-to-year compared to all others for November, newly released data reveals, thanks to President Trump’s tightening of the United States labor market.

Data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta shows that for the lowest wage earners, Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” economy has delivered the quickest rate of wage hikes in more than a decade.

In November, the bottom 25 percent of wage earners saw their wages rise 4.5 percent compared to November 2018. These bottom-tier workers, those earning less than all other Americans, have secured a labor market that now resembles the labor market of top-tier workers — a result of less low-skilled foreign competition against Americans through increased interior immigration enforcement.

900 accused clergy not included on sex abuse lists: report

900 accused clergy not included on sex abuse lists: report

© Thinkstock

More than 900 clergy members who have been accused of child sexual abuse were not included on lists released by their dioceses and religious orders, The Associated Press reported Friday.

At least 100 former clergy members who were not on the sex abuse lists have been charged with sex crimes, the wire service found.

The AP came to these numbers by comparing public lists of almost 5,300 names of credibly accused priests with a database compiled by the group BishopAccountability.org and by going through bankruptcy documents, lawsuits, media reports, settlement information and grand jury reports.

Clergy members were reportedly left off lists for a variety of reasons, including because their cases were deemed not credible by church boards or because they died and were unable to defend themselves.

Westpac scandal: Apra launches full investigation into bank over child exploitation allegations

Apra also added $500m capital requirement, bringing total capital penalty imposed on the bank to $1bn

The prudential regulator has launched a full-scale investigation into Westpac over its money-laundering and child exploitation scandal that could result in bank directors and executives being kicked out of the industry.

And the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority told Westpac it must set aside an additional $500m in capital, bringing the total capital penalty imposed on the bank since the middle of the year to $1bn.

Apra said it would also review Westpac’s governance of risk, including executive accountability and remuneration.

The investigation comes after Australia’s financial intelligence agency, Austrac, launched legal action against Westpac last month alleging the bank breached anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism finance laws 23m times, including by allowing customers to transfer money to the Philippines in a manner consistent with child exploitation.

It is the latest blow for the bank over a scandal which has already lopped the heads of its chief executive and chairman and earned a second “strike” against its remuneration report from furious shareholders.

We will use force against Turkish invasion in Libya: LAAF

The eastern-based Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF), headed by Khalifa Haftar, has announced that they will confront the “Turkish invasion” in Libya with force.

Ahmed Al-Mismari, a spokesperson for the LAAF, said during a press conference last Friday that “19 terrorists were killed in an airstrike in Sirte, including 11 Syrian nationals.”

Al-Mismari accused Turkey of “transferring the terrorists of Islamic State (IS) and Al-Nusra to Libya,” saying that the LAAF bombed sites used for storing Turkish weapons in Misrata and used by militias allied to the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).

WATER WARS

ALERT: Goldman Sachs – Taking a Deep Dive into Water . . . big profits for bankers controlling the water supply . .

May 8, 2013

Sustainable Growth:

Taking a Deep Dive into Water

Water could be a constraint on growth

The world’s freshwater resources are unevenly distributed around the

planet: over 60% of the Earth’s freshwater supply is found in just 10

countries. Severe water stress affect

s 3 billion people, two-thirds of

whom reside in the BRICs. Water needs are quickly increasing in

emerging economies such as China and India, which together account

for nearly 40% of global population and a third of global water

demand. Moreover, water resources

in many developing countries are

becoming heavily polluted and unsuit

able for human use. Inadequate

water resources could be an impe

diment to growth as developing

nations face rapidly growing demand for food and energy.

Units of the State Security Force, plainclothes agents, and Intelligence Ministry units were also present. Anti-riot units in full gear and with various types of vehicles were stationed in sensitive parts of cities throughout the country.

In some cities such as Karaj and Shiraz, the regime even deployed helicopter surveillance units. Elsewhere, such as Urmia, snipers took positions on rooftops. Reports from Karaj also indicate security forces had dispatched “Douhska” .50 caliber heavy machine guns near a cemetery where many mourners had gathered to commemorate civilians killed in the November uprising
