Five people have been stabbed at a rabbi's home in New York while celebrating the Jewish festival of Hanukkah - by a person of black origin.

The knifeman then fled the scene following the attack just before 10pm on Saturday night at a residence in Monsey, 35 miles north of New York City.

Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel later confirmed a suspect had been arrested and a vehicle of interest located.

The incident took place during a gathering at the house of a Hasidic rabbi, according to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC) for the Hudson Valley region.

MONSEY (VINnews) — Multiple people were stabbed Saturday night in a synagogue.

According to reports, a black male entered Rabbi Rottenburg’s Shul with his face covered by a scarf, and pulled out a machete. He pulled off the cover and stabbed 5 people. One of the victims was stabbed in the chest.

According to reports, 15 victims were transported to the hospital, but 5 were ultimately hospitalized. 1 victim is in critical condition.

The perpetrator ran out after his attack and escaped in a Nissan Sentra. His license plate (HPT 5747) was spotted before he left.

Thai rescue diver dies from infection contracted while saving soccer team from flooded cave

A year and a half after a youth soccer team was rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand during a harrowing and dangerous mission, one of the divers who helped save lives has died of an infection he contracted during the operation.

Petty Officer 1st Class Beirut Pakbara was receiving treatment for the infection, but his condition worsened when it spread to his bloodstream, according to a Facebook post from the Royal Thai Navy. He died this week and was buried Friday at the Talosai mosque in the Langu district of the Satun province, reported the Bangkok Post.

A Royal Thai Navy spokesman told the Bangkok Post that Beirut will be posthumously promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
