Five people have been stabbed at a rabbi's home in New York while celebrating the Jewish festival of Hanukkah - by a person of black origin.
The knifeman then fled the scene following the attack just before 10pm on Saturday night at a residence in Monsey, 35 miles north of New York City.
Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel later confirmed a suspect had been arrested and a vehicle of interest located.
The incident took place during a gathering at the house of a Hasidic rabbi, according to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC) for the Hudson Valley region.

According to reports, a black male entered Rabbi Rottenburgโs Shul with his face covered by a scarf, and pulled out a machete. He pulled off the cover and stabbed 5 people. One of the victims was stabbed in the chest.
According to reports, 15 victims were transported to the hospital, but 5 were ultimately hospitalized. 1 victim is in critical condition.
The perpetrator ran out after his attack and escaped in a Nissan Sentra. His license plate (HPT 5747) was spotted before he left.
