The Boris effect! Johnson TERRORISING Brussels as Von der Leyen admits EU 'very worried'

BORIS JOHNSON has slapped down EU Chief Ursula Von der Leyen after she warned Brussels may need to extend the deadline for talks about a new trade relationship the UK

Britain has set a hard deadline of December 2020 for reaching a new trade deal with the EU. But the European Commission President said both sides needed to seriously think about whether this is enough time to negotiate a new trade deal and work out agreements about a series of other issues. Ms Von der Leyen told French daily newspaper Les Echos: "It would be reasonable to evaluate the situation mid-year and then, if necessary, agree on extending the transition period.”

Climate Prediction Swings and Misses: A Decade of Alarmist Strike Outs, 2010-2019

Anthony Watts / 2 hours ago December 29, 2019

Climate alarmists think they are always right, and when they aren’t…they just move the goalposts ahead 10 years. Our friend Willis Eschenbach calls it “serial doomcasting“.

Some perspective:

“What historians will definitely wonder about in future centuries is how deeply flawed logic, obscured by shrewd and unrelenting propaganda, actually enabled a coalition of powerful special interests to convince nearly everyone in the world that CO2 from human industry was a dangerous, planet-destroying toxin. It will be remembered as the greatest mass delusion in the history of the world – that CO2, the life of plants, was considered for a time to be a deadly poison.” ~ Richard Lindzen

Why Are Academics Ignoring Iran’s Colonialism?

Behavior they decry when done by Europeans is overlooked when practiced by the Islamic Republic.

Academics today are obsessed with colonization, empire, and cultural hegemony, along with postcolonialism, ethnic studies, and intersectionality. Scholarship in many fields has come to be dominated by hegemony-fighting, indigenous-supporting anti-imperialists who attack anyone who disagrees with them. When a journal called Third World Quarterly published an article in 2017 about the benefits of colonialism, the uproar from the social-justice professors led to the article’s being withdrawn and 15 members of the editorial board resigning amid threats.

So if the profession is so adamant about the evils of colonialism, why is it ignoring Iran?

UN approves China-Russia backed plan to police the Internet

Are you already basically policed if you use any type of social media. Now, the UN with help from China and Russia wants to police more of what you do on the Internet, and your speech.

The United Nations on Friday approved a Russian-led bid that aims to create a new convention on cybercrime, alarming rights groups and Western powers that fear a bid to restrict online freedom.

The General Assembly approved the resolution sponsored by Russia and backed by China, which would set up a committee of international experts in 2020.

The panel will work to set up “a comprehensive international convention on countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes,” the resolution said.

The United States, European powers and rights groups fear that the language is code for legitimizing crackdowns on expression, with numerous countries defining criticism of the government as “criminal.
