There is an amount of 'why not both' to flatties claims, earth IS a spherical shape.. however, its immense gravity (which flatties say grav is fake) causes space-time to bend. Thus, an object moving in a straight line from its own perspective, in the correct direction, would seem to 'fall around' the planet due to space time curvature.
