U.S Marshals Service K-9
The U.S Marshals Service has five dogs trained by the Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms Anti- Terrorism Assistance program. This program trains
dogs for law enforcement roles and then pairs the dogs with federal officers.
Their names are Beacon, Emmy Lou, Gucci, Nick and Maxx. Beacon is four years old
he was trained to be a guide dog. Beacon was selected for ATR training and was
an excellent student. Beacon has worked at the Super Bowl, Pen tango and the Supreme Court.
The ATF trained Beacon to recognize 19,000 different types of explosives. The dogs
spend 24 hours a day with their handler and train frequently throughout each
day. The dogs only eat when there handler provides them. The handler only gives
them food when they have correctly sniffed out explosives. These dogs are with their handler on the job all the time. They protect
each other if someone tries to hunt the handler the dog will attach the person.
The dogs have very good noses they can smell anything. Some of these dogs where
guiding eyes for people who are blind. Some dogs can sniff out weapons; they can
find stuff that people are hiding
