Amazon and Ring Hit With Lawsuit After Camera Hacks Confirm Worst Fears of Privacy Advocates

"These devices are not safe," said Evan Greer, deputy director of Fight for the Future.

Home security company Ring and its parent corporation Amazon were hit with a lawsuit in federal court Thursday alleging that their cameras have been hacked on numerous occasions due to inadequate protections, confirming privacy advocates' fears about the devices.

John Baker Orange of Alabama, the plaintiff in the case, said in the lawsuit (pdf) that his Ring security camera was recently hacked while his children were playing basketball outside of his home.

"Mr. Orange's children were playing basketball when a voice came on through the camera's two-way speaker system," reads the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. "An unknown person engaged with Mr. Orange's children, commenting on their basketball play and encouraging them to get closer to the camera. Once Mr. Orange learned of the incident, he changed the password on the Ring camera and enabled two-factor authentication."

"Ring does not fulfill its core promise of providing privacy and security for its customers, as its camera systems are fatally flawed," the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit also cites the alarming breach of a Ring security camera in DeSoto County, Mississippi, where a hacker gained access to a device installed in an 8-year-old girl's bedroom and began speaking to her.

Iraq, December 29, 2019—Iraqi demonstrators held rallies in Baghdad and other cities across southern provinces chanting, “No to proxies! No to traitors! No to the Iranian regime.” The provinces of Basrah, Maysan and Al-Qādisiyyah witnessed scenes of protesters holding major demonstrations against the candidacy of Asaad Al Eidani for the country’s prime ministry.

Al Eidani, the governor of Basrah Province, has been backed for the premier job by elements and political parties associated closely to the regime in Iran. This has raised anger among the Iraqi population as they demand a figure loyal to the Iraqi people and not seeking the interests of Tehran in their country.

Demonstrators in Baghdad’s Wathba Square clashed with the government’s oppressive security forces on Saturday, reports indicate. Security units used live bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Sky News TV reported one demonstrator was killed.

Iraqi demonstrators are specifically holding Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani responsible for murdering hundreds of Iraqi demonstrators during the past few months of protests.

The Iranian regime’s proxies in Iraq are resorting to tactics very similar to those witnessed by the mullahs’ oppressive forces inside Iran. Sky News cites an official of the Iraqi Human Rights Commission saying so far 166 Iraqi demonstrators have been abducted from protest squares. The Iranian regime’s local proxies are behind these abductions, the report adds.

Iraqi demonstrators believe the recent wave of assassinations and abductions are aimed at silencing all voices against corruption and the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq.

A doctor recently broke down the facts behind Burger King’s vegan Impossible Burger, discovering that it may not be a healthier option when it comes to caloric or protein intake, and that it has a whopping 18 million times more estrogen than a standard Whopper

Writing for TSLN.com, Dr. James Stangle explains the chemical process used to create Burger King’s Impossible Burger, and alludes to the possibility that the engineered vegetable burger may be less healthy than a regular Whopper.

Stangle starts by noting that the Impossible Burger clocks in at 630 calories “mostly from the added oils,” compared to the original Whopper’s 660.

“So, about 5% less calories, this is not a huge improvement,” wrote Stangle.

Stangle goes on to explain that the Impossible Burger’s protein, though seemingly only three grams lower than the regular Whopper, is not equal to animal protein:

ICYMI: Warren's Claim That Her Father Was A Janitor Infuriates Her Brother

Elizabeth Warren is known to lie about her past, so it's probably a good thing for the Democratic candidate that her three older brothers have largely remained silent while she's been out on the campaign trail. But in a recent article in the Boston Globe, it was reported that Warren's older brother David Herring was furious after learning that his younger sister claimed their father worked as a janitor after suffering a heart attack.

VIDEO: Trump, officials meet in Palm Beach to discuss ’successful’ airstrikes in Iraq, Syria

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke in the old ballroom at Mar-a-Lago Sunday evening alongside Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to announce successful airstrikes against an Iran-backed militia in Iraq and Syria in response to an attack that killed a U.S. citizen.

“The attack that took place against an Iraqi facility threatened American forces,” Sec. Pompeo said of the five airstrikes on three targets in Western Iraq and two targets in Eastern Syria.

Within the last 72 hours, more than 30 rockets fired by Iranian-backed Shiite militia group Kataib Hezbollah led to the death of a U.S. citizen and four injured U.S. service members.

“This has been going on now for weeks and weeks and weeks. This wasn’t the first set of attacks,” Pompeo said in brief remarks, which he said were consistent with U.S. foreign policy toward Iran.
