Neil Innes, ‘Monty Python’ Songwriter, Dead At 75 Years Old

Songwriter, musician and comedian Neil Innes has passed away. He passed away from natural causes, according to a report published Monday by CNN. “Neil Innes passed away unexpectedly,” Nigel Morton, Innes’ agent, told the outlet. His death was announced on his personal website.

“It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we have to announce the death of Neil James Innes on 29th December 2019,” the statement read. “We have lost a beautiful kind, gentle soul whose music and songs touched the heart of everyone and whose intellect and search for truth inspired us all.” “He died of natural causes quickly without warning and, I think, without pain,” the statement continued.

Innes began his career as a member of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band in the early 1960s. The band was most known for its single “I’m the Urban Spaceman” before breaking up in 1970. In the 1970s, Innes became a part of the band GRIMMS and began working with the “Monty Python” group, writing songs for the TV series and albums. Innes was also a part of The Beatles parody group The Rutles.

Donald Trump And Barack Obama Tie For America’s Most Admired Man

President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama tied in the race for America’s most admired man, according to Gallup’s yearly survey. This marks the first time Trump has won this title. Obama has won the survey 12 years in a row, according to the poll. 18 percent of American adults voted for Trump when asked which man who was “living today in any part of the world” they admired the most. This was tied with an additional 18 percent voting for Obama. More Republicans voted for Trump in 2019 than previous years, the poll also noted.

Gallup’s poll was conducted Dec. 2-15 and saw a party line split among answers. 45 percent of Republicans picked Trump for America’s most-admired man and 41 percent of Democrats voted for Obama. In previous years, the current president has come up just short of the title, being voted second in both 2017 and 2018. Obama beat out Trump for both of these years, according to past polls.

In addition to the two presidents, America’s top 10 most admired men for 2019 are former President Jimmy Carter, entrepreneur Elon Musk, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Pope Francis, Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff, the Dalai Lama and investor Warren Buffett. Former First Lady Michelle Obama won 2019’s title of most admired woman with 10 percent of votes. She was the only women who received double-digit voting results, according to the poll. Current First Lady Melania Trump came in second with 5 percent of votes.

'''Census: California to Lose Congressional Seat for First Time in History

New figures from the U.S. Census ahead of the 2020 decennial count suggest that California could lose a seat in Congress for the first time in its history. While other “Sun Belt” states stand to gain congressional representation, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing U.S. Census Bureau figures on state population changes through July 1, California — once a symbol of the nation’s westward growth — will likely lose a congressional seat. The Journal reported that California will join the cold states of the Northeast and Midwest in losing political clout: Based on Monday’s figures, Texas is poised to gain two congressional seats, and Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon are expected to gain one. Eight states are expected to lose one seat: California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. The actual reapportionment calculation will take place by December 2020, with its details worked out in 2021. Each state will redraw its legislative maps, and those that have more than one congressional seat will redraw districts as well. The shift of political power away from the Northeast and Midwest toward the Southeast and Southwest is the result of residents flocking to states with warm weather, strong job growth, cheaper housing and, in some cases, lower taxes.

The likely loss in representation would come despite California helping to lead the “resistance” to President Donald Trump’s proposal to add a question to the Census asking respondents if they are U.S. citizens. California and other states feared that they could lose congressional seats if they were subsequently apportioned based on the number of citizens rather than the number of residents; California is a prime destination for immigrations, including illegal ones. The Court ruled against the administration — one of the few times it has done so. California may lose a seat anyway. Losing one of its 53 seats “would also mean the loss of one vote in the electoral college” to determine the presidency, Capitol Weekly noted earlier this year.

Sharon Stone Blocked from Dating Site Bumble After Users Thought Her Profile was Fake

Actress Sharon Stone was looking for love in all the wrong places; at least as far as the dating site Bumble is concerned. The site banned her account after users assumed it was fake. The Basic Instinct star opened up her Bumble account on Sunday evening and found a notice that she was blocked from the app.

“I went on the @bumble dating sight, and they closed my account. Some users reported that it couldn’t possibly be me! Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary? Don’t shut me out of the hive,” she wrote early on Monday morning. Clearly, Bumble just didn’t believe that the 61-year-old actress had actually opened the account.

But the dating app quickly put out a statement apologizing for deleting her account. Sharon Stone is back on Bumble! Our apologies for the confusion as we’re so honored that Ms. Stone wants to be a part of the Hive. However, being the icon that she is, we can understand how so many of our users felt it was too good to be true once they noticed her profile wasn’t photo verified. Photo verification is just one of the many ways to connect with confidence on Bumble. In light of our mixup with Sharon Stone, we’d like to extend an invitation for her to come to Austin and allow us to host her at the hive for a few hours of profile prep and great food! The ageless star has not yet responded to the reinstatement.

Sharon Stone married producer Michael Greenburg in 1984, but the marriage ended in but three short years. She next married journalist Phil Bronstein in 1998. That union lasted until 2004 and ended in divorce. Since 2004, Stone has run through a list of men but seems not to have had a serious relationship. In 2018 she said her standards are very high. “I was told that if I wanted to have a man in my life, it wouldn’t be an arrangement, it would be an actual partnership. And those are hard to find,” Stone told Grazia magazine in 2018.

Trump to counter Iowa Democratic debate with Wisconsin rally

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Wisconsin next month, countering a Democratic presidential debate set for the same night in Iowa. Trump’s campaign says the rally is set for Jan. 14 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. It’s the same night that CNN and The Des Moines Register are sponsoring the first Democratic presidential debate of 2020 at Drake University in Des Moines.

The Milwaukee rally will be Trump’s second in less than a week. The Republican president’s campaign has said he’ll hold his first 2020 rally in Toledo, Ohio, on Jan. 9. All three events could unfold against the backdrop of Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate. The Democratic-controlled House voted earlier this month to impeach Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstructing Congress over his dealings with Ukraine. A Senate trial is the next step in the process, but it has been delayed while lawmakers figure out whether to call new witnesses.
