James Comey describes Trump as 'shrunken, withered figure' in new op-ed

Former FBI Director James Comey said President Trump has become a “shrunken, withered figure,” and urged Americans to challenge his actions.

Comey outlined the urgency in what he defined as the “fourth, and final, stage,” of dealing with Trump’s rhetorical attacks on his critics as part of an op-ed published Monday in The Washington Post.

“What’s it like to be personally and publicly attacked by the president of the United States? Like many others in and out of government, I have some experience,” wrote Comey, who was fired by Trump and has feuded with the president for more than two years.

“It’s hard on good people, especially those who don’t have savings to fall back on,” he continued. “But the truth is that, in many ways, it is not as hard as you might think, especially as it continues endlessly, leaking power, shrinking its source.”

Comey said the initial shock of learning the president tweeted an attack about you wears off, becoming a “kind of numbness” in its second stage and then the “impact diminishes” in a third.

“It no longer feels as though the most powerful human on the planet is after you. It feels as though a strange and slightly sad old guy is yelling at you to get off his lawn, echoed by younger but no less sad people in red hats shouting, ‘Yeah, get off his lawn!,’” Comey wrote.

He referenced a viral video of a few world leaders appearing to gossip about Trump earlier this month as well as Trump’s declining Twitter engagement to argue that Trump “seems diminished.”

“I don’t mean to suggest Trump is not dangerous. The horrific betrayal of allies in northern Syria demonstrates that an impetuous and amoral leader can do great harm, even in shrunken form,” Comey adds.

“For the fourth, and final, stage, we need to fight through our fatigue and contempt for this shrunken, withered figure. Spurred by the danger he poses to our nation and its values, we have to overcome the shock and numbness of earlier stages. We must not look away,” Comey wrote.

Brazil fines Facebook $1.6 million over improper data sharing

Brazil announced Monday that it had fined Facebook $1.6 million over improperly sharing user data with Cambridge Analytica.

In issuing the fine, the Department of Consumer Protection said the data of 443,000 Facebook users was “misused” by developers of the Facebook app “thisisyourdigitallife."

The agency ruled the data was used “for questionable purposes and without the represented parties being able to demonstrate any modifying fact that that number was actually smaller.”

The agency further ruled that Facebook “failed to provide appropriate information to their users” with regard to privacy settings on the social media platform, and how user data was shared with third-party apps.

A Facebook spokesperson pushed back against the agency's findings, telling The Hill in a statement that the company is “currently evaluating our legal options in this case.”

"We are focused on protecting people’s information and privacy,” the spokesperson said. “We have made changes to our platform and restricted the information accessible to app developers. There is no evidence data from users in Brazil were transferred to Cambridge Analytica.”

The “thisisyourdigitallifeapp” was built by Cambridge Analytica in the run-up to the 2016 U.S. presidential election to gather information about Facebook users in order to target them for political advertisements.

The Federal Trade Commission unanimously ruled earlier this month that Cambridge Analytica engaged in “deceptive practices” in harvesting user data, finding that the now-defunct company had deceived users about what data would be collected and how it would be used.

Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security wrote in a statement announcing the fine that its investigation into improper data sharing examined “the violation of the personal data of the Facebook platform's contracting consumers, as well as whether someone had obtained improper access to such data, taking into account the user's consent form, where sharing is the default, and automatic data sharing with application developers of this user's friends.”

Facebook has 10 days to appeal the fine. If it does not appeal, the company has 30 days to pay the fine.

Montana poised to get second House seat post-census: report

The state of Montana could soon be represented by a second representative in the U.S. House after the 2020 census, according to figures released Monday.

Census information first reported by The Wall Street Journal found that the state's population grew by nearly 80,000 between 2010 and 2019, leading analysts to predict the state would be among several to gain representatives in Congress following the official results' release next year.

Other states projected by the Journal to gain congressional seats include North Carolina, Arizona, Oregon, Florida, Colorado and Montana. States including California, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota were projected to lose one representative each.

California's projected loss of a congressional representative would mark the first time since it joined the union that the state's congressional delegation decreases in size.

In general, the census is expected to reflect a slowing in the growth of the U.S. population, resulting from lower birthrates and migration levels. The official reapportionment of congressional representation is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Try using some Prep-H. You will feel cooler with less burn. Also, stop eating so much acidic food for at least a week.

Don't forget to breath in through your nose and out your mouth. ← that will also help with filtering the air in the restroom for others sake.

Bernie Sanders' doctors say he’s fit to serve, months after heart attack

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on Monday released a summary of health records, including three letters from doctors affirming his fitness to serve as president if elected, just months after he suffered a heart attack while on the campaign trail.

Sanders' campaign, in the wake of the Vermont senator's heart attack in October, had vowed to release medical records by the year's end.

"You are in good health currently and you have been engaging vigorously in the rigors of your campaign, travel, and other scheduled activities without any limitation,” wrote Brian P. Monahan, M.D., the attending physician of the United States Congress and Sanders’ primary doctor.

Sanders, 78, most recently had a physical on Dec. 19 and weighed in at 174 pounds where he underwent a "successful" treadmill examination to test his heart's strength, the doctor stated.

Monahan said Sanders' heart muscle strength had improved. He went further in the letter saying Sanders has been treated in the past for conditions including gout, diverticulitis, hypothyroidism and lumbar strain. He takes daily medications including aspirin, a blood thinner and prescriptions for high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

The Oct. 1 heart attack in Las Vegas had raised concerns among some voters about whether he would be healthy enough to continue campaigning for president. His campaign initially told the public Sanders had two stents put in, but after several days acknowledged he had had a "myocardial infarction," more commonly referred to as a heart attack.

Sanders' doctor at the University of Vermont also passed him with flying colors, saying he is "more than fit enough to pursue vigorous activities … and handle a great deal of stress."

If elected, Sanders would be the oldest president in history.
