some people really shouldn't be handling their own finances. my daughter just finished a double-major in management and finance and i'm trying to convince her to start a business that teaches people the basics that we used to learn in school.

who are you giving that $2500 to? how much interest are they paying you? if you have such a dire medical situation, every penny you pay out of pocket for medical/pharma can be itemized and deducted. are you the one complaining about having to pay $500 for glasses you don't need? there's your reason for not using a flexspend. you save a few pennies on taxes but lose control of money that could be earning you interest….plus, you may not get any of your investment back. sheesh….put that $2500 in a high-yield savings account and the interest you earn may offset the additional income taxes you may have to pay.

you are loaning the government money you earned through labor at 0% interest until you tell them everything about your annual financial situation so they will send it back to you…maybe.

max out that w4 and keep as many pennies you earn each month as you can. structure your income and deductions so as to minimize your taxable income then pay them by april 15.

again…you are not saving much on taxes to put that money in a flexspend account and you risk losing it…or having to waste it at the end of the year. put whatever you're having taken out for a flexspend account into a high-yield saving account that you have full access to and control of. it will earn interest to offset the small amount you will pay in taxes and you can use it for whatever you want, whenever you want. want to buy vitamins? go buy vitamins.

that's what i want my daughter to do….independent and affordable financial advisor geared to millennials like her. she's lived it the hard way and amazes me at how financially savvy she is.
