I thought that they lost the Midterms on purpose so that Nancy could bring articles of Impeachment. If the Repubs. still had the house, it would have looked really bad if they had brought articles of impeachment. And once the Senate gets hold of it, everything can be legally put on public record. That's why it was so important for Repubs. to win the Senate in the Midterms.
I think what threw off their plan was the secret pardons.
