I'm of the opinion that the mark on their foreheads was symbolic of the distortions of their thinking.

The number 666 adds to 18, which adds to 9, which is known as the number of ego.

They, like Satan himself, have succumbed to the ego of Satan. They are the "go alongs" who, in order to keep the usual pattern of life intact (buying - selling, etc) agree to do things Satan's way.

The song says "bow down to the one you serve, you're gonna get what you deserve." We really DO need to decide who we will serve and who we will fight.

Atheists try to avoid making that decision. But there really isn't a neutral position. To engage in commerce on Satan's terms is to serve Satan.

This is all the more reason for Anons to cultivate a personal humility.

We say that God judges the hearts of men as if that is something woo-woo. It's not.

It's actually quite simple … watch to see what the hands have done because the hands will not long do what is not in the heart to do. Do we sometimes act out of a failure to completely and correctly understand a situation? Sure – the hand, and even the heart, can make mistakes – but if they truly are unintended mistakes, we will correct them to the full extent of our ability.

This is why the Bible makes the point about "acts befitting repentance" as being an essential element of forgiveness. (Godly forgiveness is not simply candy thrown out of a parade float. There are several steps along the way.)

The 4th and 5th steps of AA (and the relevant discussion of them in the Big Book) are another phrasing of this idea.

Step back from data to see the larger pattern that is information. Who ordered the half-hearted attack on the embassy and who ordered the withdrawal. While our attention was focused here, what was being done "off stage"?
