I also took notice of the facial expressions of the woman behind Tom Hanks; looks to be Keely Shaye Smith (Pierce Brosnan's wife). She actually seemed "in on" the jokes Gervais was telling, and looking at the reactions of some in the crowd while darting looks at the rest of the room.

 

Gives me a bit of hope for some in the industry, at least.

It's baffling me, too. These shows are normally pre-recorded, but the only info I could find is that they are filmed "live" as of 2010.

This might be how they got away with it. But then you have to get past how Ricky's "jokes" were allowed to be put on the teleprompter for him to be able to read them.

As of this writing, Pres Trump has no public/press appearances on his schedule today, back at the WH from 17 days at his Palm Beach estate. He accepts credentials from new foreign ambassadors to the US and has lunch with VP Pence. There could be additions.
