Iranian state television demands viewers pay $80 million for bounty on President Trump’s head

A state run broadcaster invited millions of viewers to each contribute $1 for a reward payable to anyone who kills the president.

Iran’s state television recently asked its audience of up to 80 million people to donate a total of $80 million for a bounty on Donald Trump’s head.

“Iran has 80 million inhabitants. Based on the Iranian population, we want to raise $80 million, which is a reward for those who get close to the head of President Trump, ” the Iranian mullah regime said on state television according to en24.

The message reportedly came at the request of the regime, which recently organized a funeral service after a U.S. airstrike killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani. The regime holds the president responsible for his death.

“Iranian state television: $80 million equivalent to President Donald Trump’s head,” obstetrician and gynecologist Zaid Al-Wahab shared on Twitter.

South Korea deployment plans under scrutiny amid U.S., Iran tensions

Jan. 6 (UPI) – South Korea's potential plan to deploy a guided missile destroyer warship to the Middle East is in the spotlight as tensions rise between the United States and Iran.

The 4,400-ton Wang Geon and the 31st batch of South Korea's anti-piracy Cheonghae Unit are at the center of attention in Seoul as the country grows increasingly concerned about securing petroleum supplies.

Sung Yun-mo, Seoul's minister of energy and trade, briefed the standing committee of President Moon Jae-in's national security council on the energy risks resulting from tensions in the Middle East, Seoul Pyongyang News reported Monday.

Joo Young-joon, deputy minister for energy and resources at the ministry of trade, industry and energy, said the threat to Korea's oil supply is "not yet" as high as it was in September, when drone attacks hit Saudi oil plants, JTBC reported.

Gabriel Matzneff: French writer investigated for child rape after alleged victim publishes book

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened a preliminary investigation into statutory rape against a French writer who is accused of sexual relationships with children in a newly released book.

Gabriel Matzneff, 83, is a French writer who has written extensively about his attraction to underage boys and girls in novels and essays.

In her book Consent, released in France on Thursday, 47-year-old publisher Vanessa Springora tells the story of her relationship with Matzneff when she was about to turn 14, which she describes as predatory, and the effect it has had on her all her life.

"At 14, you're not supposed to be picked up by a 50-year-old man who's waiting for you outside the school, you're not supposed to live with him in a hotel, nor find yourself in bed with him, with his penis in your mouth as a 4-o'clock snack," she writes.

As Harvey Weinstein trial begins, Hollywood dutifully feigns the outrage it kept quiet for the years he operated

Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein is finally on trial for sexual assault and rape charges, and Hollywood wants us to know they’re horrified - despite years of quietly letting Weinstein prey on women, and even joking about it.

Jury selection for Weinstein’s trial has begun, and all eyes were on the one-time Hollywood titan as he hobbled into court on Monday, seemingly trying to look older than his 67 years. Over 100 women have gone on the record accusing him of varying levels of sexual impropriety, from unwanted advances to rape.

Hundreds more, however, remained silent while he was allegedly preying on these women, even though Weinstein’s behavior was one of the biggest “open secrets” in the industry. When Weinstein was finally indicted on five felony counts of sexual assault and rape in 2018, the number of previously silent boldface names who admitted they had “heard stories” of the megaproducer’s “inappropriate” behavior was almost comical. Most in Hollywood expressed relief that he was finally being held to account, but some continued to plead ignorance or even praise the mogul, especially actors whose careers he’d launched or aided.

Widespread awareness that Weinstein was hurting women didn’t stop anyone from working with him during the height of his career, so long as that awareness remained confined to the industry.

But Weinstein could not have operated without the consent of that industry, which still viewed the “casting couch” concept - in which sex is exchanged for roles - as a normal and acceptable part of the business. NBC sitcom 30 Rock was mocking his sexual quid-pro-quos all the way back in 2012, while Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s own joke about the predatory producer at a 2013 Oscars event was met with raucous laughter, suggesting the audience knew full well what he was talking about.

Nicolas Maduro’s regime concluded 2019 with more than 5,000 people killed by Chavista military forces, while the South American country remains one of the most violent nations in the world.

An investigation by the Venezuelan Observatory of Violence (OVV) revealed that at least 16,506 violent deaths were recorded in 2019 with a homicide rate of 60.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. Violence in Venezuela is twice as high as in countries like Colombia or Mexico, which have a homicide rate of 25 and 29, respectively.

However, the security forces of Nicolás Maduro’s regime hindered the attendance of the deputies. While Guaidó was trying to get into the Assembly, the legislative branch was hijacked.
