but they are experts on car repair and those old chevys are cultural artifacts.

It's a testiment to self reliance and they were able to succeed despite the foot of the beast on their heads.

once I had this dream of befuddlement. I was inside some arduous process, running through a series of useless harranging and humiliating circunstances in darkness, through hallways, and mazes of traps and switch-backing process. With people all about to hound and harrass, appearing out of nowhere, as if neverending dinge and darkness, and sad process mongering trolls demanding I follow their rules, use their hallways, eat their vending machine crap, be their institutional slave . . . and at the end of the dream, suddenly there was a door opened quickly so fast I don't even remember and then I was through it and in a vacant lot where there was no building at all, no process, no people demanding I follow all their madness and 'prove them wrong' and harrassing me.

the storm that had occured that had made me go in there in the first place? was over. and the lot was just dirt, something new would soon be built there, it had the sense of being in Manhattan, or South Eastern Conneticuit, some institutinal place, maybe Brooklyn.

and then the dream ended. I was free of the process and the mongers as if they never were.

it was perhaps a metaphor in dream for the process of going through the University system and all the bogus authorities who don't know nothin' being put in charge of those of us who can know enough to escape from there once we rest and nurish and get off the rat wheel that we are expected to run in.
