Context is relevant. Beyond the "critical mass learned behavior" explanation is the claim that one hundred monkeys banging away at typewriters long enough could have eventually produced Shakespearean prose. With the advent of the internet, this was disproved when it was realized that there were several million monkeys pounding away at keyboards and very little of what they produced was even remotely Shakespearean. At this point, we can be reasonably certain that there is no amount of monkeys sufficient for that task. ;-)
