But I imagine they were on high alert after the missile strikes. Maybe even ran training missions that included American retaliation after the missile strikes and were told to expect it and told not to hesitate when firing. Get a trigger happy Iranian ready to prove his loyalty to his country on the night of "the ATTACK" and boom he shoots the first thing he sees, and oops, it was a passenger plane.
Admittedly, this is all speculation.
