PHOTOS: Migrants Stranded on 30-Foot Border Wall in California

San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a group of migrants who became stranded atop a new 30-foot border wall. The migrants were abandoned on the wall by their human smugglers.

Agents patrolling the border near Otay Mesa, California, observed a group of three stranded on top of a recently constructed 30-foot border wall around midnight January 5. The man and two women attempted to illegally cross the border under the cover of dense fog but became stuck on the slippery wall when their smugglers abandoned them, according to information obtained from San Diego Sector Border Patrol officials.

Agents contacted the San Diego Fire Department for assistance. Fire department rescue crews utilized a ladder truck to remove the illegal immigrants from their precarious perch.

Agents questioned the three and determined them to be Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States. Officials said there was one man, 36, and two women ages 20 and 18.

“These three were very fortunate to not have fallen from the top of the wall which could have resulted in serious injury or death,” San Diego Sector’s Acting Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said in a written statement. “These dangers are not important considerations to smugglers, who place an emphasis on profits over safety.”

Weinstein lawyers ask judge to recuse over alleged bias against him

Lawyers for Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced media mogul accused of sex crimes in two states, asked a New York judge to recuse himself from Weinstein's trial after the judge ordered him not to use his cell phone in the courtroom.

Variety reported Wednesday that Weinstein's attorneys called the comments directed at their client by Justice James Burke “prejudicial and inflammatory" and also took issue with Burke's decision to not allow the case to be put on hold temporarily a day earlier.

“It has become clear to Mr. Weinstein that the Court has already violated its own mandate to the potential jurors by deciding that Mr. Weinstein is guilty before it has heard any of the trial evidence,” read a court filing obtained by Variety.

Burke apparently questioned Weinstein after he was caught texting in the courtroom during a previous court proceeding, and asked the defendant if he wished to be jailed for life.

“Is this really the way you want to end up in jail for the rest of your life, by texting in violation of an order?” Burke reportedly asked.

Weinstein, who appeared in court this week using a walker, faces accusations from dozens of women in the film industry of inappropriate and unconsensual sexual behavior, including new rape charges that were made public in Los Angeles this week.

“We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement Monday.

Weinstein has yet to comment on the newest charges against him, but has maintained that his sexual encounters with women over the years were consensual.

Fmr. CIA Officer: Yes, there are ‘Iranian sleeper cells’ inside United States

“There are unquestionably [Iranian] sleeper cells in the United States, operated and directed by Iran,” said former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright on ‘Fox and Friends’. “We know that they usually operate in one, two or three individuals, normally men. Almost exclusively Lebanese or Iranian descent.”

“The CIA and the FBI have long had a pulse on this threat…So we know that the risk is there,” continued Bryan Dean Wright. “The other deep concern is that we have to be right 100 percent of the time to mitigate these individuals [and] find this threat. And, unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to do that every time.”

“So the threat is real, we are going to unfortunately probably miss a handful of these folks who come in…and that’s the bad news,” explained Bryan Dean Wright.

“The good news…is that because we have been investigating this threat for so long, we know most of them, and most importantly we have told the Iranian government that we know what they are up to and that we will strike back,” continued Bryan Dean Wright.

“So, what’s important now is [if] the Iranians want to strike back, they know we will take a disproportionate attack against them,” he told the “Friends”

“That is powerful. That is important. And, the American people should sleep much, much, easier knowing that we have somebody in the White House who is willing to take that kind of a step,” said Bryan Dean Wright.

Iranian officials releasing names of (their) sleepers in the US as a bargaining chip in the near future?
