Catholic persecution worse after Vatican-China deal, Congress finds
Washington D.C., Jan 8, 2020 / 10:00 am (CNA).- A new U.S. government report says that human rights abuse in China has worsened in the last year, and specifically highlighted the escalating persecution of Chinese Catholics in the wake of the Vatican-China agreement of 2018.
“During its 2019 reporting year, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China found that the human rights situation has worsened and the rule of law continued to deteriorate, as the Chinese government and Party increasingly used regulations and laws to assert social and political control,” stated the commission’s annual report, released on Wednesday.
The report said that “After the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed an agreement with the Holy See in September 2018 paving the way for unifying the state-sanctioned and underground Catholic communities, local Chinese authorities subjected Catholic believers in China to increasing persecution by demolishing churches, removing crosses, and continuing to detain underground clergy.”

Iran’s confused remarks following the IRGC missile attack into Iraq
Iran, January 9, 2020—Following the killing of former Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force chief Qasem Soleimani and the Iranian regime’s missile attack targeting military bases in Iraq where U.S. forces are stationed, the regime’s leadership officials in Tehran are extremely concerned about the future and making contradictory remarks.
Fear of Iranian opposition
In his latest remarks on Wednesday, January 8, Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei even lashed out at the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) currently stationed in Albania and referred to a visit by former U.S. national security advisor General James Jones to Ashraf 3, the PMOI site near Tirana, the Albanian capital. Khamenei was obviously extremely angry over the MEK’s role in the November uprising and included opinion in his remarks about a completely different subject.

“A few days prior to the [November uprising], the issue about gasoline, in a European country, a small but very evil country in Europe, an American figure gathered with a number of Iranians, and they started plotting against the Islamic republic. Their plan was played out in what we witnessed a few days later in the gasoline [protests]. People were angry about the gasoline issue. A number of people came out in the name of protests, and when others joined their ranks, while their numbers were very low, these deceived people came out with a plot and carried out that very plan; to destroy and torch government centers, popular sites and start a war. This was a premeditated plot. And when I say a few days prior to these events, they were re-checking their plans because they had previously blue-printed their measures, preparing their people,” Khamenei said.

California's Cannabis Black Market Is Insanely Larger Than Its Legal Market
Almost three-quarters of all marijuana purchased in California this year will be of the illicit variety.
In case you haven't noticed, marijuana is budding into a big-money business. Last year, the legal weed industry generated a whopping $10.9 billion in worldwide sales, and by the end of the next decade we could be talking about as much as $200 billion in annual revenue.
Though the entire world presents as an opportunity for the marijuana industry, it's the United States that's widely considered the crown jewel. Depending on your preferred source, the U.S. may wind up generating a third to perhaps more than half of all annual sales in a decade.

How Weak. Mindless Socialist AOC Calls GOP Rep a “Racist” for Pointing Out Squad Members Support Ayatollahs over America
On Wednesday Trump administration officials briefed members of Congress on the 90 Iranian attacks on US assets in the past two months and on the credible intelligence they had regarding Al Quds Leader Qassem Soleimani’s planned attack on the US Embassy in Iraq.
Following the briefing far left Rep. Jayapal accused President Trump of “recklessly” “assassinating” the world’s top terrorist Soleimani.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal: "President Trump recklessly assassinated Qasem Soleimani. He had no evidence of an imminent threat or attack." pic.twitter.com/htYowEvXOM

Following Rep. Jayapal’s dishonest statements to the media Republican Rep. John Rutherford (R-FL) accused the Democrat “Squad” of being Ayatollah sympathizers.
This seems pretty fair considering the liberl outrage at Soleimani’s targeted killing.

Leading Communitarian Takes Shot At Technocrats
Amitai Etzioni is the modern academic father of Communitarianism, which elevates the ‘common good’ over individual rights. It stands diametrically opposed to liberalism and libertarianism.
Etzioni does not grasp that Technocracy also preaches the same common good, except that it is Technocrats who decide what is good for the majority of society. Communitarianism was first used in 1841 by John Goodwin Barmby who led the Chartist movement; it referred to utopian socialists and those who were experimenting with communal lifestyles. Communitarianism is also used to describe authoritarian societies like Malaysia, Singapore and China.
Just as Communism has been a natural enemy of Technocracy since the 1930s, Communitarianism falls into the same camp and for similar reasons, ie, who gets to decide on the common good. ⁃ TN Editor
Speech is too important for technocrats to control. Elected officials and the courts should be the main controllers—and they should control only when there is a clear and present danger to our security and to our democratic process.
Strong voices from both ends of the political spectrum have called on tech companies to be more responsible, to remove from their platforms any material that offends community mores and that manipulates elections. Actually, as I see it, over the last few years the tech corporations have blocked or deleted staggering amounts of messages and ads, including material which, if removed from offline publication, would lead even moderate defenders of free speech to go ballistic. Moreover, each tech corporation is making its own rules about which speech it allows and which it blocks. These are not subject to public review and often impossible to figure out. Protecting speech—and figuring out the rare occasions people should be denied voice, should be censored—is too important to leave to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow tech tycoons.

The Fed Can't Reverse the Decline of Financialization and Globalization
The global economy and financial system are both running on the last toxic fumes of financialization and globalization.
For two generations, globalization and financialization have been the two engines of global growth and soaring assets. Globalization can mean many things, but its beating heart is the arbitraging of the labor of the powerless, and commodity, environmental and tax costs by the powerful to increase their profits and wealth.
In other words, globalization is the result of those at the top of the wealth-power pyramid shifting capital around the world to exploit lower costs of labor, commodities, environmental regulations and taxes.
This manifests as offshoring of jobs, the stripmining of forests, minerals, etc., the degradation of local ecosystems, the decline of tax revenues derived from capital and the explosive rise in stock market valuations as wages stagnate or decline.
A key element in globalization is the transfer of risk from the owners of capital to the workers and public resources. Examples of this transfer of risk abound: rather than pay workers benefits, corporations game part-time/full-time labor laws so workers’ health insurance is paid by taxpayers (Medicaid). Corporations pay wages too low to survive so workers depend on public-sector assistance (food stamps, etc.)
Rather than provide vehicles to workers who drive for a living, corporations such as Uber and Lyft transfer all the risks of ownership, maintenance and enterprise to the drivers. And so on.
Financialization is the exploitation of assets/income that were previously safe from predation by those with access to low-cost central bank credit.
