Local media in Canada saying that this was an Air Canada affiliated flight from Canada to Iran via Ukraine. Passengers on the leg flight to Canada commenting on all the empty seats.
There were a lot of students, academics and families booked on the flight for holiday travel to Iran. It was taken out by bad actors. Most deaths are collateral damage.
