Many times I have had to explain to adult children and grandchildren how it used to be. That there really was a time when we didn't lock our doors because there was no need to. When we would leave our babies in a pram outside a shop knowing that they would be there when we came out. When everyone disciplined/trained everyone else's children as well as their own without fear of an angry parent threatening one because you had given their darling little sugar-puff a well deserved ticking off. Yes, there really was such a time…I lived it.

I live in a rural area in the UK. Up until three years ago I had never locked a door. Then someone came into my house and stole a handbag containing money and debit/credit cards and driving licence etc while I was in another room - totally opportunistic theft. Since then I now lock myself in.
I'm a 1950's faggot - they really were different times.
