Raymond Kagumire, founder of Not For Sale Uganda, is a recent recruit to the modern anti-slavery movement.

In his own words:

“I first heard about Human Trafficking on local Uganda news through different media channels that I never really took seriously. But in August 2014, I got to know Swedish technology executive Ulf Stenerhag and he told me about his desire to expand the brand Not For Sale worldwide. Ulf sent me the book, “Not For Sale” by David Batstone. This did not only help with information - former child soldiers in Uganda and deeper knowledge on international human trafficking - but it also inspired me to start up Not For Sale Uganda.”

Setting out to build a strong network of advocates in Uganda, Raymond has been a whirlwind force. In 2015, he met with government, business, and cultural leaders, and established a presence for Not For Sale Ale in the Ugandan international beer festival. In fact, because of his promotional prowess, one prominent national newspaper covering the beer festival reported that “Not For Sale Ale, Heineken, and other international brands participated.”

Also, one immediate result of Raymond’s networking led to a rescue. An early volunteer went home after a Not For Sale educational meeting and realized his sister was given a sketchy offer. Because of this meeting, he was able to stop her from traveling to Saudi Arabia into what was an obvious human trafficking trap. In 2016, Raymond is ready to scale Not For Sale’s activities in Uganda, aspiring to establish a business hub for enterprises that address the root causes of human trafficking in his country.

Raymond met Dave Batstone personally for the first time last week in Stockholm at the Stenerhag home. It was snowing outside, and Raymond noted that it was the first time he had ever seen snow. So Dave ran outside and returned with Raymond's first snowman. Delighted, his moment of joy is captured in the photo above. Now, Raymond dreams of bringing that delight of first snow to Uganda!
