John Kerry Claims Obama 'Never Had a Whiff of Scandal' So Let's Remind Him Of Some

A lie told often enough becomes the truth.

I keep thinking about the above quote whenever anyone claims that the Obama administration was scandal-free. How many more times are we going to hear people make this claim and see it go unchallenged?

During an interview on CNN on Friday, former Secretary of State John Kerry, who's in Iowa campaigning with Joe Biden, echoed the oft-repeated claim that the Obama-Biden administration lacked scandals.

"I believe Joe Biden is the only person who has the set of relationships around the world, who has had this unbelievable breadth of experience as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and then as vice president for eight years — and in an administration, by the way, which never had a whiff of scandal," Kerry said.

George Soros Transfers Billions to Open Society Foundations

Open Society Foundations founder George Soros has transferred nearly $18 billion in recent years to the philanthropy, making it the second-largest private foundation in the United States by asset size, the Wall Street Journal reports.

OSF now holds the bulk of Soros's fortune, and the 87-year-old founder of Soros Fund Management LLC plans to give most of the rest to the foundation during his lifetime or upon his death, people familiar with the matter told the Journal. Soros also has moved to share decisions about his firm's strategy with OSF's investment committee, while, in a break with past practice, the firm's new chief investment officer, Dawn Fitzpatrick, reports not to Soros but to the philanthropy's investment committee.

"It's an ongoing process of migration from a hedge fund toward a pool of capital deployed to support a foundation over the long term," said Bill Ford, a committee member and chief executive of General Atlantic LLC.

According to Foundation Center data, the Foundation to Promote Open Society (which, along with numerous other entities around the world, falls under the OSF umbrella) held $7.3 billion in total assets as of December 31, 2015. If the nearly $18 billion was transferred after that date, the foundation's total assets would now total some $25 billion, second only to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which held total assets of more than $40 billion at the end of 2015.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren – who has tried to position her campaign as a more moderate, pragmatic version of Sanders’ progressive platform – has charged to the party’s rescue, latching onto a fundraising script allegedly used by the Sanders campaign that described her supporters as “highly educated, more affluent people.” Portraying her constituents thus equates to “trashing her,” she told reporters when confronted with the script on Sunday. Warren then went on to use it as the basis of a fundraising email pleading for “unity.”
