Could mean that DOJ offered him some food and he ate it, meaning that he accepted the offer. Food means sustenance which in the case of Assange could simply mean a way out of the tangled mess he is in. That would include ensuring that the Cabal cannot assassinate him, and might even include something to rehabilitate him in the public eye.
However, I suspect he will have to take a fall for some of his actions and accept that the way he ran Wikileaks was illegal. It really does seem that the way forward of the Trump administration is to beef up the Inspector General role and the protections for Whistleblowers who leak to their IG.
