THE Queen ditched her regal robes for a lighter day dress at a national service for the 100th anniversary of the Order of the British Empire

As sovereign of the Order, she has a grand and imposing mantle with a long train which she normally wears to the Order's service, last held in 2012.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "It was the Queen's personal choice to wear day dress." She declined to say whether the 91-year-old monarch had chosen it because the mantle was too heavy or cumbersome.
