Blenheim Palace is damn incredible. Much more impressive than Buckingham Palace, imho. Spent a whole day there a couple years ago. Knocked my socks off.
Know what really struck me in there, despite the crazy great architecture and furnishings? The DOORS. Absolutely perfect solid wood, polished to perfection, with the most incredible gleaming brass hardware I've ever seen. Little curlicues carved into it, intricate lock mechanism, even the hinges had been made like they were fine jewelry, beautiful doorknobs, just a pleasure to see. But I'm a woodworking nerd. Anyhow the gardens are incredible too.
Side story: Cornelia Vanderbilt was a very, very unhappy woman until she got away from that crowd.
