Kudlow: Phase One of China trade deal is 'historic' and will help US economy grow faster

 

Speaking on “America’s Newsroom” shortly before President Trump was expected to sign phase one of a trade agreement with China Wednesday, the president's chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow called it a "historic" and unprecedented agreement.

 

The National Economic Council director added that President Trump “has changed the narrative on China’s unfair trading practices.”

 

Kudlow went on to say that “as soon as the agreement is signed today, phase two begins.”

 

“We will get right at it,” he said.

 

Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He are expected to sign the phase one trade agreement of a U.S. trade deal on Wednesday, after nearly 18 months of a simmering tariff dispute. The deal is the first step toward a more comprehensive trade agreement between the world's two largest economies and has been in the works since October.

Democratic Debate Viewership Rises, But Still Far Off From Ratings Highs In 2020 Cycle

 

CNN’s coverage of the Democratic presidential debate drew an estimated 7.3 million viewers, according to early numbers from Nielsen Media Research.

 

That’s a slight uptick from the the 6.17 million who watched the debate in December, sponsored by PBS and Politico, and the 6.5 million who watched November’s event, hosted by MSNBC.

 

But the debate numbers are a big drop from those held earlier in the cycle. The first Democratic debate, held in June, drew 18.1 million viewers. That event was sponsored by NBC News, MSNBC and Telemundo. This was CNN’s third debate this cycle: The first, in July, drew 8.2 million viewers on the first night and 10.1 million viewers on the second. Its October debate drew 8.3 million viewers.

Saudi Arabia Carried Out Record Number Of Executions In 2019

 

Saudi Arabia’s shortage of executioners didn’t stop the kingdom from carrying out a record number of death sentences in 2019, according to the non-profit Reprieve, which monitors how KSA handles capital punishment.

 

According to figures provided to ABC News, KSA executed 184 people last year, including 90 foreign nationals. The most common crime committed by the prisoners who were put to death was drug smuggling (82 were executed for smuggling narcotics) while 57 were executed on murder charges.

 

That’s compared to a total of 22 executions in the entire US.
