In the 80s ('84 or '86, can't remember specifically) but there were 2 comets that just magically appeared, astronomers were not expecting them and were baffled. One comet went through a coronal mass ejection and emerged on the other side, perfectly intact.
Think about that for a moment.
It was described by at least one intel agency as " a shot across the bow" and everyone was very freaked about it.
That's when the aerial spraying really kicked into high gear to the extent that the sky would be totally occluded after spraying. I wondered at the time why that happened and I'm putting those 2 things together from my own experience, though they may not be connected at the highest levels, but it was weird to me at the time.
