I'm not opposed to distributed computing tasks like OCR page reading so long as they are disclosed.
Subscription is probably the way to go.
I have long pondered about the "free software", "free email", "free website", "free services" model that was introduced and widely practiced during the dotcom hayday. … what kind of business model is that?
People now recognize that if it's free, YOU are the product. And we were. Our data was harvested and sold and used, without our consent.
We knew something was going on but it was covert.
There's something inherently evil about the usual kind of advertising that's designed to subversively manipulate.
There has to be a better way.
