The FBI on Thursday arrested three suspected neo-Nazis who had planned to travel with firearms to Richmond, Va., to participate in a protest against gun control measures proposed by the state legislatureโ€™s newly-seated Democratic majority.

Federal officials took the three men into custody in connection with a probe into the white supremacist group The Base, charging them with several federal crimes in Maryland, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland announced.

Officials said one of the three, Patrik Mathews, a former soldier in the Canadian army, entered the U.S. illegally. Mathews, a trained combat engineer, was discharged from the Canadian military after his white supremacist ties came to light, The New York Times reported.

>>7844941Three more suspected neo-Nazis connected to a white nationalist group that reportedly planned to have members at a gun rights rally in Virginia have been arrested, authorities say.

Three Georgia men were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and participating in a criminal street gang as part of the hate group, The Base, according to the Floyd County Police Department.

News of the arrests come a day after three other suspected members of The Base were arrested in Maryland on firearms and alien-harboring charges.

The three Georgia men, identified as Luke Austin Lane of Floyd County, Michael Helterbrand of Dalton and Jacob Kaderli of Dacula, were planning to "overthrow the government and murder a Bartow County couple," Floyd County police said in a statement.

Lane, who was arrested near his home without incident Wednesday, and Kaderli are being housed in Floyd County, and Helterbrand is to arrive later Friday, police said. Lane was also denied bond Thursday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE (CBS19 NEWS) โ€“ A local gun control group that plans to be in Richmond the same day as a massive pro-gun rally has been forced to change its plans.

The Charlottesville Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention will be at the state Capitol on Monday for its annual Martin Luther King Day vigil to honor victims of gun violence.

But a local coordinator says they have been advised to change the time of the vigil in Richmond because of the large crowds expected for the big pro-gun lobby day.

Pastor Gay Einstein is helping to coordinate a bus trip there.

"The pro-gun people can't assure the Capitol Police everyone is gone by the time we're going to be there at two o'clock. That's historically the time when we have our vigil, so we have moved our vigil up to three o'clock so that there isn't that cross over," she said.

The group has been holding the MLK vigil for 27 years at the Capitol and after the vigil next Monday, members will visit local legislators to lobby for what they call sensible gun control legislation that's been successfully passed in other statesโ€ฆ.yes there is a Pastor named Gay Einstein LOL
