In one interview I saw Gowdy said that he was a persistent lawyer but not actually a very good lawyer, and that the president had really good lawyers. Basically he said that POTUS's lawyers had been working on this for years and that it was too late in the game for him (Gowdy) to get up to speed and offer any real value.
