Wealthy NYC charity founder found dead with stab wounds in fatal fire
The bighearted founder of a charity that gives toys to impoverished children was found dead with stab wounds in his burning Brooklyn brownstone early Monday, cops said.
L. Antonio Litman personally bought every kid on his Fort Greene block a hoverboard for Christmas, neighbors shocked by his suspicious death said.
A fire broke out in the basement of Litman’s four-story brownstone on Adelphi St. near Dekalb Ave. about 3:20 a.m. After firefighters put out the blaze they discovered Litman dead face down in the lobby — with puncture wounds to his neck and around his body, sources said.
Neighbors said Litman, who is on the board of the State University of New York’s Maritime Museum, made his fortune in shipping.
Litman is the founder of Virginia’s House of Hope, which boasts it has distributed school supplies, food, clothing and educational toys to over 10,000 New York families in need.
Litman has worked for International Registries, which deals with ocean vessel and corporate registration, for the past 27 years, a company spokeswoman said. He was the assistant to a managing partner who runs the company’s New York office.
The fire was one of three fatal blazes to break out around the city in just a 30-minute span. Police believe the victim of one of the other fires, in Queens Village, Queens, was also the victim of a homicide.

Man who fled court-martial found dead in Mendocino forest
An Air Force service member who had fled a court-martial was found dead Sunday in a Mendocino County forest.
Kevin A. Larson, 34, had disappeared Friday from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, shortly before he was to be sentenced. Details of the offense for which he was tried were not revealed.
An arrest warrant was issued.
On Saturday around 4 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop Larson’s 2018 Jeep Wrangler near Ukiah. The driver refused to stop, leading a pursuit north on Highway 101. He eluded the officer by turning onto Reeves Canyon Road, near the community of Redwood Valley, said the report by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Air Force special agents were told of the chase, and that evening they staked out the intersection of Reeves Canyon and Highway 101. At daybreak Sunday, they began searching the road and saw the Wrangler parked on a fire road about eight miles from the highway, the sheriff’s report said.
Because of concerns that Larson was armed and had expressed suicidal thoughts, the agents did not approach the vehicle.
Local law enforcement agencies joined the operation around 7:30 a.m..
A drone was deployed to check the Wrangler. Though the vehicle’s windows were fogged, images indicated a person was inside. As the drone was surveying the area, a single shot was heard.
The Mendocino County Multi-Agency SWAT Team was called in, and around 1:30 p.m. it approached the Wrangler. The missing man was found dead about 30 yards from the vehicle.
Initial investigation suggested he had shot himself with a high-powered rifle.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Prince Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed by Relatives Has Been Dismissed; Estate Case Continues
A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Prince’s family members has been quietly dismissed in recent months, suggesting family members have reached settlements with defendants including the Minnesota doctor who saw Prince in the weeks before his death and the Illinois hospital that treated him for an opioid overdose seven days before he died.
Prince was 57 when he died of an accidental fentanyl overdose on April 21, 2016, without leaving a will. No one was criminally charged in his death and the source of the counterfeit pills that killed him remains unknown.
An autopsy found Prince overdosed on fentanyl. Authorities said it was likely Prince didn’t know he was taking the synthetic opioid that is 50 times more powerful than heroin.
