Some people have actually researched psychopaths and how and why they rise to power. More importantly they have studied what happens to organizations as a psychopath rises to power and what happens the longer they are charge, The answer is not good as other psychopaths, sociopaths and sycophants begin to fill all the ranks as good people fall out of the organization or shrink to lowly positions in an attempt to avoid the psychos.
So the notion that a few bad apples at the top are the only problem is wrong. Organizationally, for as many bad apples at the top that we know about, indicates that the entire organization is invested and has been for some time. Doesn't mean that a few good men are not on the job, but they are probably looking for the exits.
