Of course they say these were free standing & unearthed. No doubt some are. Nevertheless, IMO some things were moved around above ground. As far as deciphering the primitive (juvenile actually) markings (very fresh, impossibly fresh), what took so long, if it had any relationship to any known language? These people are not solely in it for the love of digging things up, no matter what they say. MONEY is king in all branches of science. We have seen again and again how these science fraudsters will fake findings because that is what the money wants to hear. Look, we just piled a bunch of rocks up and called it a tomb. And that regular residential house that has partially collapsed? A temple, of course. And no money, no digging. Not anywhere. Big city under there, likely far more modern than people imagine.
