It was not the case that Q left bc comped.
There were then, and still are now, a lot of people who thought that all the Q stuff was all bullshit and they hated it and they just wanted Q to go. And each and every day was a struggle for Q to get his message out. There were a lot more people looking at the Q stuff then. 4 Chan is a more popular board, more people.
Also remember, the Q threads were on /pol/ not on any /qresearch/ q specific board.
Q was driven out by the angry majority (or a large minority). Things have been a lot easier at 8, but 8 doesn't reach as many people. It isn't indexed by google, for one thing.
