George Soros in Davos: 2020 Election Will Determine ‘Fate of the World’

Left-wing billionaire George Soros on Thursday reportedly warned that the 2020 election will determine the “fate of the world” and lashed out at President Donald Trump during a private dinner event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Soros, the 89-year-old founder of the progressive advocacy organization Open Society Foundations, accused the president of being a “con man” and a “narcissist” who wants the world to “revolve around him,” according to CNBC.

“When his fantasy of becoming president became a reality,” his ego swelled, Soros said, adding: “This has turned his narcissism into a malignant disease.”

Soros, who has yet to endorse a 2020 Democrat candidate, then said that this year’s election will decide the “fate of the world,” CNBC reports. In October, the billionaire argued White House contender Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is the “most qualified to be president,” but stopped short of formally throwing his support behind her.

This, of course, is not the first time the hedge fund manager has taken aim at President Trump at the World Economic Forum. Last year, Soros criticized the president’s negotiating style against China, which culminated in the signing of a phase one trade agreement last Wednesday.

“Regrettably, President Trump seems to be following a different course: Make concessions to China and declare victory while renewing his attacks on U.S. allies,” Soros said at the time. “This is liable to undermine the U.S. policy objective of curbing China’s abuses and excesses.”

At this year’s event, Soros also lambasted Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping for his government’s use of a totalitarian social credit scoring system on Chinese citizens. Xi is using “artificial intelligence to have total control of his people,” Soros warned. He also mused that China’s president is “trying to exploit” President Trump on trade.

These remarks follow President Trump’s speech before the World Economic Forum, in which he touted his America First economic policies as a model for global prosperity.

“A nation’s highest duty is to its own citizens,” the president told attendees. “Honoring this truth is the only way to build faith and confidence in the market system. Only when governments put their own people first will people be fully invested in their national futures.”

“A pro-worker, pro-citizen, pro-family agenda demonstrates how a nation can thrive when its communities, its companies, its government work together for the good of the whole nation,” he added.

President Trump also used the speech to reject climate alarmism, which loomed large over this year’s event, partly due to teen climate activist Greta Thunberg’s attendance.

“These alarmists always demand the same thing – absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives,” the president stated. “We’re committed to conserving the majesty of God’s creation and the natural beauty of our world.”

Trump Says Plans to Release Middle East Peace Plan Sometime Prior to Netanyahu Visit

The Israeli media have suggested recently that the new peace project for the highly-conflicted region could be released within the next 24 hours, though the POTUS has dismissed the reports about the timing of the release as "purely speculative".

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he is planning to release the Middle East peace plan sometime prior to Israeli PM Netanyahu's visit to Washington.

The president added that Palestinians may react negatively to his administration's proposals at first, but nonetheless characterised it as a "great plan" that would benefit the Palestinian people.

“It's a great plan", the president said. "It's a plan that really would work".

He also said that his administration has had brief talks with the Palestinians, and is planning to speak to them again "in a period of time".

"I'd love to be able to do that deal. They say that's the hardest of all deals", the US president said. "I love doing deals".

The Israeli premier and his political rival, leader of the opposition Blue and White party, Benny Gantz are expected to fly to the United States on Tuesday, to discuss shared US and Israeli regional and national security interests.

Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported that the US' long-awaited peace plan could envisage Israel's sovereignty over all West Bank Israeli settlements save 15, which the US would no longer automatically consider to be illegal, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said back in November 2019. It would also secure the Jordan Valley as the Israeli eastern border.

According to the Times of Israel, citing state TV, the Israeli-Palestinian peace plan would also see full Israeli sovereignty throughout Jerusalem and "no significant return" of Palestinian refugees to the country.

Israel has continued to build settlements in the occupied areas despite objections from the United Nations, as it refuses to recognise the Palestinian National Authority as an independent political and diplomatic entity.

Premier Netanyahu has also repeatedly vowed to annex the Jordan Valley if re-elected in the March 2020 election.

The Trump administration has laid out steps to address the decades-long Palestinian conflict, however, their policies have received a negative response in the region itself, as well as from the international community.

In 2019, the US recognised Tel Aviv's claims to the Golan Heights, which Israel has held control of since capturing it from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. Earlier in 2018, Washington recognised Jerusalem as the Jewish state's capital.

Houthis Release Video Summarizing Their Largest Attacks On Saudi-led Forces In 2019

On January 23, the Houthis’ media wing released a video summarizing the group’s largest and most successful attacks during the last year.

The video shows operations from each month of 2019. The operations varied from ambushes, anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) strikes, improvised explosives device (IED) attacks, large-scale offensive and defensive operations to drone, missile strikes, and even air-defense engagements.

Most of the attacks shown in the video took place in the Yemeni provinces of Hajjah, Ma’rib, Dale and Saada as well as in the southern Saudi provinces of Najran, Jizan and Asir.

The video highlights the significant losses which were inflicted by the Houthis on the Saudi-led coalition and its Yemeni proxies in 2019.

Last year, the Houthis were able to up-scale their operations and significantly improves their offensive capabilities. The Yemeni group presented several advanced weapon systems and adopted new tactics to drain Saudi forces.

These measures by the Houthis effectively prevented the Saudi-led coalition from making any notable achievement in Yemen in 2019.

White House Rolls Out New Rules To End ‘Birth Tourism’

The Trump administration will implement new rules that aim to prevent pregnant foreign nationals from visiting the U.S. for the sole purpose of giving birth on U.S. soil.

The White House announced rules Thursday meant to crack down on “birth tourism,” where foreign pregnant women enter the U.S. on a tourist visa in order to give birth, giving their child automatic citizenship. Under the upcoming guidelines, pregnant women applying for B visas — otherwise known as nonimmigrant visitor visas — may have to prove that they have a specific purpose for traveling to the U.S. other than giving birth.

“[T]he State Department will no longer issue temporary visitor (B-1/B-2) visas to aliens seeking to enter the United States for ‘birth tourism’ – the practice of traveling to the United States to secure automatic and permanent American citizenship for their children by giving birth on American soil,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement Thursday.

“This rule change is necessary to enhance public safety, national security, and the integrity of our immigration system,” Grisham continued. She also noted that the rule change will go into effect Friday.

U.S. officials will not automatically ask every female visa applicant if they are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, but they will be questioned about the subject if officials are led to believe that their only reason for entering the U.S. is to give birth.

Under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, anyone born on U.S. soil is given automatic citizenship, a concept known as birthright citizenship. While the practice has been tolerated, the U.S. government has historically blocked those that are deemed unable to cover costs for their births.

Trump Rolls Back Another Obama-Era Enviro Rule As Impeachment Trial Drags On

The Environmental Protection Agency finalized a rule Thursday afternoon scaling back an Obama-era regulation farmers and energy producers said saddled them with unnecessary burdens.

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced the rule change in Las Vegas, effectively hemming in a regulation restricting the use of fertilizers and pesticides. President Donald Trump promised to repeal his predecessor’s “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule when he was running in 2016.

Rolling back WOTUS saves landowners, farmers and businesses from being forced to hire “teams of attorneys to tell them how to use their own land,” Wheeler told reporters at a meeting of the National Association of Home Builders. The rollback is one of many the president is administering.

Trump rolled back more than 90 environmental rules and regulations during his first three years in office, The New York Times reported in December. The NYT relied on an analysis from Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School and other sources to keep tabs on the president’s numbers.

The president often touts his record of nixing former President Barack Obama’s regulatory regime.

“I terminated one of the most ridiculous regulations of all: the last administration’s disastrous Waters of the United States rule,” Trump told the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention Sunday. “That was a rule that basically took your property away from you.”

German reporter blames Israel for misusing Holocaust remembrance

Jewish leader terms commentary a boost for right-wing extremists

A German journalist for the publically-funded broadcaster ARD is under fire for writing a commentary that will be welcomed by right-wing extremists, because it condemns the behavior of Israel and Russia as unworthy during the remembrance of the liberation of Auschwitz, a prominent German Jewish leader alleged.

The commentary of the journalist, Sabine Müller, on Thursday triggered outrage on social media. The German Green Party’s member of the European Parliament Sergey Lagodinsky wrote on Twitter: “Not serious… Incredible chutzpah. There is so much weirdness in this commentary.”

Ran Ronen, a member of the executive committee of the nearly 100,000-member Central Council of Jews in Germany, tweeted: “Ms. Sabine Müller, who talks about party and unworthy behavior from Israel, crosses every line of reason and morality.”

He added that the commentary falls into the sector of right-wing extremism, noting with apparent sarcasm that “Right-wing radicals should complain again that they have no friendly media.”

The Bild journalist Filipp Piatov termed Müller’s commentary “bad style” and as someone who has forgotten her history.

Müller wrote that “What was unworthy, however, was how Israel and Russia partially seized this commemoration day. How they celebrated their own political and memorial private party before the official event – with new verbal attacks against Poland and demonstratively lengthy bilateral talks between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and [Russian] President Vladimir Putin.”

In contrast to her criticism of the “egoism” of Netanyahu and Putin, she wrote that Steinmeier “lived up to the expectations of the first speech by a German head of state in Yad Vashem and, as a representative of the country of the perpetrators, delivered an impressively sensitive and clear speech – in English, mind you. A speech about German guilt and responsibility.”
