Equities are a bad barometer. Look at the Sovereign holdings, since that's the currency in use, as collateral, which gets you a better gauge as to how much cash is actually in use. Margin on "hedge" accounts is far, far lower than "normal" margin accounts. Belgium is one nexus, using Euroclear.
