Notice how the grid pattern does not extend to Antarctica. Is Antarctica free from the control grid?

the stars on the insignia might not be from Earth's perspective. They might be from the perspective of some other star.
I seem to recall this being an issue in the Betty and Barney Hill case, where Betty was able to draw a star map that turned out to be basically accurate, but only made sense when viewing the sky from some distant point in space.
