i almost hate tech-illiterate people but i understand not all of us can be savvy enough.
whenever you have a HDD crash, 99.99% of the time it's just your windows that went tits up - all you gotta do is get a windows Disk/thumbdrive, and reinstall over C:\ drive.
everything else will be right where you left it - except of course anything on the desktop or int he downloads folder, which brings me to my next point - always save shit in d:\ e:\ and subsequent drives. NEVER save anything in c: drive. anything in c:\drive is gonna vanish if your windows kicks the bucket.
c:\, desktop, downloads, documents folders are a no-no.
d:\, e:\, f:\ and so on are golden.
i don't know anything about the macs. i'm not gay.
