Influenza has been linked to pneumonia for mortality purposes. Pneumonia is the dying man’s friend. This linkage was intentional to give liars flexibility to inflate numbers for flu deaths. Nobody I work with “just scribbles some shit down” and neither do I.
You cannot bill anything for filling out a death certificate. It is one of the many free services mandated by the state and imposed on practitioners.
Not the way it’s done in my state. This year we are transitioning to “electronic” death certificates. There is no communication with EHR and the state database certification is made onto. Data placed onto a death certificate is placed there by a physician. Not sure what area of medicine you work in. I am the one filling those fuckers out for the many thousands dying under my care.

He should fight that. The hospital needs your permission or that of a designated decision maker to bill you for care. If she collapsed in the lobby they certainly called a code blue, revived her and placed her in the ICU where she racked up the bill.
