Be extremely cautious about using RO water for consumption. It's not exactly "safe", nor is it cost effective. You're probably better off using charcoal based filtration systems, depending on how good your source is.

It's a down-side, for sure. Also, if you don't change your filters on a regular basis (or if one gets damaged over time), you start getting high concentrations of everything you wanted to keep out leaking back in.

 

If you really way to go through such a lengthy process, I'm not going to stop you. Yes, I would recommend adding something to the RO water prior to consumption. However, one thing to note is that RO has difficulties dissolving certain solvents. So, at the very least, stir the fuck out of it before you drink.

 

Reverse Osmosis is overkill for drinking water, in most instances. There are several other methods of filtration that will likely be more beneficial for significantly less money, time, and energy. IMHO. I'd advise anyone to thoroughly research before investing in RO. In the meantime, get a charcoal filter for less than $20
