A plane crashed in Taliban territory in Afghanistan, but authorities can't agree on who it belongs to

A plane crashed in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, but government aviation authorities aren't agreeing on who it belongs to.

Arif Noori, a spokesman for Ghazni city's provincial governor, told Reuters Monday: "A Boeing plane belonging to the Ariana Afghan Airline, has crashed in the Sado Khel area of Deh Yak district of Ghazni province around 1:10 p.m. local time."

Sarwar Danish, Afghanistan's vice president, also said the plane was operated by Ariana, The New York Times reported.

However, Qasim Wafayezadathe, the head of Afghanistan's civil aviation, said it was not a civilian plane, according to Times reporter Mujib Mashal.

The number of casualties is not yet clear. Deh Yak is held by the Taliban, according to the Associated Press.

Ariana Airlines has denied reports of its involvement in the crash in a Facebook post.
