Just east of Calabasas in the same mountain range is Topanga Canyon. That place has a wild/spoopy/cabal history. For one, Topanga was the location of the first murder by the Manson Family. It also was home to a number of late 60's/early 70's LA based musicians associated with Laurel Canyon.

On August 27, 1990, the guitar virtuoso played the last show of his life. A few hours later, he was killed when his helicopter crashed because of a thick fog that which hampered the pilot's visibility.
Eric Clapton invited Steve Ray Vaughan and his band Double Trouble to open two shows at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. Minutes after leaving the scene, he was dead ion the crash.
In the previous afternoon he had performed along with Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and his older brother Jimmie Vaughan.
Four helicopters were at the musicians' disposal, and Stevie found an empty seat in a helicopter with some members of Clapton's crew, and decided to go. Clapton almost took the helicopter as well, but decided to stay. As a result of the overcast sky and the heavy fog, Stevie's helicopter turned the wrong way and hit an artificial ski slope. There were no survivors, and blues rock had lost one of its greatest exponents. Stevie Ray Vaughan is buried in Laurel Land Memorial Park, in Dallas, Texas.
