About coronavirus fears. Apologies if this has already been addressed on the boards.

According to the CDC, estimated influenza fatalities in 2018 for the US alone came to 61,099.

I'm no mathfag, but according to my calculations, that's 62,000 / 330,000,000 = .018% of the US population.

Wuhan is said to have a population of 11 million. According to Business Insider, 170 have died from coronavirus.

170 / 11,000,000 = .0015%

.018 / .0015 = 12

So, by this limited comparison, the common flu is 12 times deadlier than coronavirus.

Why then is coronavirus a thing? Is there a consensus here? Is it a wag-the-dog distraction from something? A cover for something? A gambit to get vaccines into people? Whatever it is, it seems a pathetic failure that ought to be more obvious to the masses than the panic would indicate.

Again, sorry if this has been gone over, but I've been busy working and haven't had time to lurk lately. Thanks anons.
