This month 1954, KGB Lieutenant Colonel Yuriy Rastvorov defected to US authorities in Japan. He had extensive knowledge of the Russian intelligence services that was useful to US Intel. In absentia, he was sentenced to death by the Military Collegium of the Russian Supreme Court.
