…and a famous bishop praised paganism a year ago (“there is something very deep and true and noble in paganism,” starting at 9:24)
Exodus 20:
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

God was most upset when the Israelites regularly violated this commandment.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

So the Pope literally violated this one in public.
The OT is all about how God says, “Worship me, not those horrible debased gods you made up yourself!” The Israelites do right for a short time, then fall into immorality and pagan worship, are thoroughly punished, repent, are forgiven, told to shape up…repeat. That’s the OT.
How can the Pope and a bishop just set aside two commandments and the whole OT?
Of course, actual ancient paganism was frequently deeply debased, to a shocking extent. Human (child) sacrifice, orgiastic rituals, child rape, massive corruption…
