This also reminds me of reports I've read of homosexual behavior in birds exposed to mercury in their environment that was reversed when that environment was cleaned up, also anecdotal about comparable with adult males, who reluctantly found (I assume because it changed their whole lifestyle) their attractions undone, makes me wonder about mercury dental fillings. I will also add that in the book "Osler's Web" there is mention of a conference on brain microbe infections, I believe it was held in Germany, with a comment questioning how much of behavior is controlled by these infections, think toxoplasmosis gonii just for a start.
