WHY? Is this why?

Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010

The new nutrition standards have been a point initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama in her fight against childhood obesity as part of her Let's Move! initiative.[2] In FY 2011, federal spending totaled $10.1 billion for the National School Lunch Program.[3] The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act allows USDA, for the first time in 30 years, opportunity to make real reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs by improving the critical nutrition and hunger safety net for millions of children.[4] Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and Michelle Obama were a step in transforming the food pyramid recommendation, which has been around since the early 1990s, into what is now known as "MyPlate".

GLYPHOSATE NOW THE MOST-USED AGRICULTURAL CHEMICAL EVER

A study published Tuesday in the journal Environmental Sciences Europe reveals that Americans have applied 1.8 million tons of glyphosate since its introduction in 1974. Worldwide, 9.4 million tons of the chemical have been sprayed onto fields. For comparison, that's equivalent to the weight of water in more than 2,300 Olympic-size swimming pools. It's also enough to spray nearly half a pound of Roundup on every cultivated acre of land in the world.

Research has also shown that glyphosate is an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it interferes with the proper functioning and production of hormones, in human cell lines. It's not yet clear how much of an impact glyphosate has had on cancer rates.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has relaxed its rules about what it considers a safe level of glyphosate. Fifty times more glyphosate is allowed on corn grain now than in 1996, for example, Freese says. The agency has also increased what it considers a safe amount of glyphosate exposure by a factor of 17.

What Crops Are Sprayed with Glyphosate? Over 70 of Them To Be Exact

Organic Crops Also Tainted

If over 70 popular crops are sprayed with glyphosate, how the heck do you avoid it? The first assumption would be to eat organic, and while this greatly helps reduce glyphosate residues being consumed, it doesn’t mean your produce is totally glyphosate-free.

Glyphosate is everywhere. It’s in our air. It’s in our water. It’s in the soil miles away from where it was originally sprayed.
